Errors in Windows 8 / 8.1 using Palm Desktop 6.2

When installing the Palm Desktop on a Windows 8 or 8.1 you may come across some of the following errors with either installing the software and/or running the software. These are the some of the fixes we have found for these errors.

When installing the Palm desktop software, you may come across the error in Image 1 when installing. Since the software we are using for the Palm units is supported up to Windows 7, this doesn’t mean we can’t get it to work on a Windows 8 system.

To resolve this issue we need to let Windows know that we are installing this using Windows 7 Configurations. To do this we need to set the “Windows Compatibility” to run in Windows 7. In Image 2 we see the properties page for the “PalmDesktopWin62” setup file. Go to the Compatibility tab and under the compatibility mode select the check box for “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” and then select “Windows 7” from the drop down list. Also check the box next to “Disable display scaling on high DPI settings”. Then select “Apply” and the “Ok” to close the properties window.

Now run the “PalmdesktopWin62.exe” to install the Palm Desktop onto your computer. The install should complete. Once done you will need to run an initial sync with your handheld on Windows.

If while using Palm Desktop and when opening up the program your screen looks like Image 3 then there is a simple fix for this issue as well.

To fix this issue simple “right click” on the icon and select “properties” for this program. In the properties tab select the “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” under the Compatibility mode area and then select Windows 7 from the dropdown menu. Also check the box next to “Disable display scaling on high DPI settings”. Then select “Apply” and the “Ok” to close the properties window.

Once done double click the Palm Desktop shortcut on the desktop and the Palm Desktop should open with all the modules back in the window.

You can now resume using the program as usual.
